Tattoo artist Dean Boreham designed our Burn Witch Burn print.
We asked him a few questions to get to know him and his inspirations a little better. Enjoy.
How did you get into tattooing?
I had been working in retail management for a number of years while also doing freelance illustration pieced; I spoke to a buddy of mine about how working in retail had become stale and unrewarding. He invited me to his studio for a chat and took me under his wing. There’s been a few changed and long stories since then however. Big shout out to Gaz and all the awesome dudes at South of Heaven Tattoo studio which is where i am today.
Big Up Gaz! I feel ya, retail is a bitch. How did you find the style you have or are you still exploring?
I’ve always been heavily influenced by black metal, horror films/comics and anything to do with the occult so i would sit and study the illustrations from the Tales from the Crypt comic and film imagery. Then i would justrdraw and see what came out haha. Thats how my style progressed i would say.
Who do you fanboy over?
I wouldn’t say i ‘fanboy’ however i’ve got a great deal of respect and admiration for Mike Giant. His work is outstanding and his work ethic is inspiring.
Do you have any tips for someone just starting out?
I’m still new to tattooing myself and have a great deal to learn. I would say draw as much as you can, listen to the advice from your mentor, don’t be afraid to ask questions and stay humble.
What 3 things are the most important to you?
My Wife, Daughter and horror films haha
Tell me a funny story.
My 4 month old daughters woolly had fits my head perfect.
Ahahaha i’m in the tiny head club too! Vaginas for ears or Dicks for fingers?
Vaginas for ears all the way haha.
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life what would it be?
Salt and pepper chicken with egg fried rice. That would be nice.
That shits amazing! Would you rather be invisible or be able to fly?
I’m terrified of heights so i’d rather be invisible; although due to my size i’m not far off now
Ahahahah!! At least you could wear your daughters hat and no one would see!
What are the top 5 songs on your playlist?
Lucero – Among the Ghosts
Biggie – Who Shot Ya
Shawn James – Pendulum Swings
Dummy Borgir – In Deaths Embrace
Black Flag – Wasted
